Answers for Science Assignment 3.3
2(a) The nearer the bird is to the producer of the food chain, the lower the concentration of pesticides in its muscles.
2(b) Bioaccumulation.
Pesticide tend to accumulate in the organisms because chemicals are not excreted from their bodies. Thus they are passed along the food chain, and become concentrated in the bodies of final consumers.
Since the energy transfer is inefficient between trophic levels, thus organisms consume a large number of organisms from the trophic level below it.
2(c) The sea was less affected by the pesticide because people or industries tend to dump large amount of inorganic waste like pesticide. It is washed by rainwater into the fresh water.
